Improve Your Patent Research Experience on TotalPatent One™

You may have noticed that LexisNexis TotalPatent one™ recently received some significant updates. Based on user feedback, we have added additional features and functions to improve your patent research experience on TotalPatent One™. Here is a brief overview of the recent updates:

  • Text Filters: Text filters now appear in the results list, and will be coming to the folders view next month. The text filters include all the current fields that are in TotalPatent, but in TotalPatent One they load instantly. When a search is run, the results will automatically come back in a split screen view with the text filters on the left and the results on the right. You can toggle back and forth between the text filters and the search box using the icons at the top of the search filter box. You are even able to display the graphical filters at the same time as the text filters (pictured below).

  • Keyword Occurrence: Keyword Occurrence highlights the number of occurrences for each search term by section in the results list. The number shown on the far right of each term is the cumulative total of occurrences across all four sections (Title, Abstract, Claims and Description). To see the number of occurrences in any one section, simply hover the cursor on over that section.  A number will appear informing you of the number of occurrences in that particular section. This feature can be turned on and off in your Preferences.

  • Search Term Highlighting: Your search terms will now be highlighted in the publication (document) view. We have a palette of 20 colors to highlight each instance of a search term. Note: If you have over 20 search terms the color sequence will not repeat and it will not select when using special characters such as the asterisk (*).highlighting.png
  • Extended Family: The new extended family feature which incorporates related documents such as Continuations, CIPs, etc. into the definition, is now available. This is our most comprehensive definition of family and is our equivalent to INPADOC. Use the preference tab to select the extended family view as your default display.
